Raised Bed Soil Calculator: what the result means
Estimate the usable soil volume inside raised beds from internal length, width and fill depth. External timber or masonry dimensions overstate the space available to soil.

Use one calculation for identical beds or separate calculations for beds with different dimensions, freeboard or internal structures.
How to measure this project
Measure inside faces after construction. Use intended soil fill depth rather than total wall height, leaving planned freeboard. Deduct substantial reservoirs, false bottoms or permanent inserts.
Product and terminology distinctions
Raised-bed mix is not automatically pure topsoil or compost. The design may call for a particular growing-medium composition.
Worked example
Two identical beds each have internal dimensions 2.4 m × 1.1 m and a fill depth of 0.38 m. One requires 1.0032 m³; two require 2.0064 m³ before deductions or allowance.
The example uses geometry only. It does not insert a density, package size, recommended depth or supplier tolerance.
How to discuss the result with a supplier
If using a specified blend, keep the total bed volume separate from component proportions. Confirm whether suppliers quote blend volume, individual ingredients or packages.
Limitations

Only if the bed will genuinely be filled to that height; otherwise enter the planned internal fill depth.
Can it calculate a soil blend?
It calculates total space. Apply only an independently specified blend ratio.
