Road Base Calculator: what the result means
Calculate the design volume of a road-base layer from its footprint and specified thickness. “Road base” refers to a project specification, not one universal blend.

How to measure this project
Measure lane reaches separately where width or thickness changes. Include designed shoulders only when they use the same material and depth. Treat junction flares as triangles or separate polygons.
Product and terminology distinctions
Road base can differ from crusher run or generic aggregate according to local specifications. Similar names should not override project documents.
Worked example
An access route has a 22 m × 3.0 m main rectangle plus two triangular flares, each with 3 m base and 2 m perpendicular height. Area is 66 + 2 × (3 × 2 ÷ 2) = 72 m². At 150 mm, volume is 10.8 m³.
The example uses geometry only. It does not insert a density, package size, recommended depth or supplier tolerance.
How to discuss the result with a supplier
Use the full specification designation and confirm the supplied grading, source and sale unit. Clarify how the supplier treats loose delivery versus compacted layer volume.
